Tannin Extraction from Chestnut Wood Waste: From Lab Scale to Semi-Industrial Plant
نویسندگان
چکیده
The chestnut tree (Castanea sativa, Mill.) is a widespread plant in Europe whose fruits and wood has relevant economic impact. Chestnut (CW) rich high-value compounds that exhibit various biological activities, such as antioxidant well anticarcinogenic antimicrobial properties. These metabolites can be mainly divided into monomeric polyphenols tannins. In this piece of work, we investigated sustainable protocol to isolate enriched fractions the above-mentioned from CW residues. Specifically, sequential extraction protocol, using subcritical water, was used pre-fractionation step, recovering approximately 88% tannins 40% first second steps, respectively. optimized also tested at pre-industrial levels, treating up 13.5 kg 160 L solution with encouraging results. Ultra- nanofiltrations were further enrich recovered fractions, achieving more than 98% tannin content heavy fraction, whilst removed permeate achieved 752.71 mg GAE/gext after concentration (75.3%). Samples characterized by means total phenolic (TPC), activity (DPPH· ABTS·), composition (hydrolysable condensed). addition, LC-MS-DAD for semiqualitative purposes detect vescalagin/castalagin vescalin/castalin, gallic acid ellagic acid. developed valorization allows efficient fractionation recovery major polyphenolic components approach evaluates scaling-up.

Cedar wood oil is ranked the tenth essential oil in the world, it can be obtained from fir wood waste, and high added value Cedar series perfumes are obtained from Cedar wood oil by chemical processing. Their aroma is very unique and cannot be replaced. At present, the cedar wood resources are dwindling; a serious influence had taken place in the flavor and fragrance industry. Study found that ...
متن کاملSimultaneous Microwave Extraction and Separation of Volatile and Non-Volatile Organic Compounds of Boldo Leaves. From Lab to Industrial Scale
Microwave extraction and separation has been used to increase the concentration of the extract compared to the conventional method with the same solid/liquid ratio, reducing extraction time and separate at the same time Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) from non-Volatile Organic Compounds (NVOC) of boldo leaves. As preliminary study, a response surface method has been used to optimize the extrac...
متن کاملFrom the Lab to the Farm: An Industrial Perspective of Plant Beneficial Microorganisms
Any successful strategy aimed at enhancing crop productivity with microbial products ultimately relies on the ability to scale at regional to global levels. Microorganisms that show promise in the lab may lack key characteristics for widespread adoption in sustainable and productive agricultural systems. This paper provides an overview of critical considerations involved with taking a strain fr...
متن کاملExtraction of Starch from Differently Treated Horse Chestnut Slices
Starch was isolated from dehydrated Horse Chestnut slices dried at temperature of 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90°C and rehydrated chips (dried at 50 and 60°C) at rehydration temperature of 25 and 40°C. Optimization was done on the basis of starch yield. The highest yield was found in the sample dried at 50°C. Physicochemical properties of optimized starch were determined. Color values indicate that the ...
متن کاملExtraction and Antifungal Activity of Tannin from Tamarind Husk
Fungi are potent threat for food and tissue culture sector. Easy adoption and resistance of spores made fungus challenging to control. Natural antifungal agents are needed to control fungi in vegetables, foods, etc., in order to maintain foods natural character. In this study, we investigated the effect of various solvent crude Tannin extract (E) on the important food contaminating fungal agent...
